MAC's Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) provides leadership in the prevention of child abuse through community education and training, and promotes policies and services that help support families and children.

CAPC activities include:

Training for mandated reporters – Many employees working with children (teacher aides, therapists, child care providers, etc.) are mandated by law to report suspected child abuse. CAPC offers classes free of charge for mandated reporters and others working with children, to clarify the rules and procedures of the law. If you or your group would like to schedule or find out more about these trainings, please call 415-507-0181.

Marin Child Death Review Team – Originally developed to look at child abuse and neglect-related deaths, the Marin Child Death Review Team now focuses on a host of other issues, including identifying public health concerns, promoting health education and inter-agency coordination.

Information and referral – CAPC provides resource and referral information for the community on any child related issues – not only abuse. If you have questions please call us at 415-507-0181.

Conference and workshops – Marin CAPC provides both training for professionals on child welfare issues and also hosts parent education evenings.

Marin Child Abuse Prevention Council prevents child abuse by:

Acting as a resource for the community, providing information and referrals to appropriate agencies.

Convening a Council of child welfare professionals and other interested community members who work together to identify and remove barriers to child abuse prevention.

Providing seminars and conferences for the community on topics relevant to the prevention of child abuse.

Convening the Child Death Review Team.

Providing classes for people mandated by the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Law to report a suspicion of child abuse.

Conducting ongoing needs assessment in the community to identify new ways in which the Council and the program can respond to community need.

Continually evaluating our program and possible project involvement to advocate for Marin’s children.
